In 1966-67, the Australians had only their own technology to count on. The “country of origin” clause was strictly enforced by the NYYC. As a result, Dame Pattie was fully designed and built in Australia, which, at the time was an additional challenge for the designer, Warwick J. Hood.
In the tests, Dame Pattie, nevertheless beat Gretel I, who had benefitted from American technology. But Dame Pattie was powerless against Intrepid.
