Bluenose ( 1921 ) Pesquero

El Blue Nose, es un pesquero construido en Nueva Escocia el 26 de Marzo del 1921 y diseñado por W. J. Roué. Este velero se queda en alta mar hasta llenar sus depósitos de pesca y hace únicamente dos o tres períodos de pesca por temporada. En invierno, al acabar la temporada de la pesca, los depósitos se desarman o se utilizan para el transporte de flete.

Muy pronto, el Blue Nose se va a destacar por su velocidad y gana todas las regatas clásicas americanas del litoral este. Durante la década de los años veinte, llamó la atención del mundo entero al ganar la Regata Internacional de los Pescadores, una respuesta de la clase obrera a los caballeros de la Copa América.

El barco se fue a pique en un arrecife cerca de Haïti en 1946. Una réplica fue botada en 1963.

HISTORIC NOTE

Bluenose was built in Nova Scotia in 1921 to fish the rough waters off the coast of Newfoundland. Throughout the 1920 and 1930 she came to international attention by winning the International Fishermen’s Race.
